      Bill Smith
Bill Smith 82, of Tulsa, OK passed away March 12, 2012 at his home. Bill Smith was born December 2, 1929 in Tahlequah, Oklahoma, the youngest of 7 children of Elsie and Will Smith. He has one surviving brother, Wallace Smith (96) of Mulvane, Kansas. It was depressed years. The family moved often starting in Tiff City, Missouri in 1937. Bill attended Anderson Schools and graduated from Mount Vernon High School. He learned to make high quality furniture in Industrial Arts Class. While in Tiff he became acquainted with the Brokaw family who lived up over the hill. In 1949 as he prepared to go into the Army, Bill came down with Polio. Later in 1951 he returned to Tiff City and again met that pretty red-haired Dorothy Brokaw. They were married in 1952 and lived in Tulsa 34 years where he worked for Amerada Hess Oil Co in the printing department. Bill and Dorothy had two children, Becki (Rebecca Louise) and Wayne (William Wayne). He was blessed with 6 grandchildren - Carl Flood, Melissa Flood, Lesly Flood, Jeptha Smith, Mallie McDaniel, and Josiah Smith, and 3 great grandchildren. Bill retired from Amerada Hess and they moved to the farm at Tiff City to care for Dorothy's parents in 1984. Dorothy passed in 1994. Her parents were also gone and Bill was alone for 5 years. Bill and Vi Cotter were married in 1999. . She had been alone for 12 years. Vi moved to the farm with him. Bill and Vi had known each other for 45+ years since Dorothy and Vi went to Nursing School together in 1949 in Tulsa. Bill was a very hard worker; never idle. He reset over 200 fence posts by himself. He had an antique John Deere '60 that he prized: It was his symbol of hard work. His first granddaughter, Melissa, wanted to be a help on the farm. She drove the tractor into the front of the freezer house knocking out the door and wall. She also ran a big wheel off the tractor on the side of the hill which she was mowing, and a few other incidents. Most of all Bill was a Christian man. He and Vi were active in Buffalo Creek Baptist Church the 11 years since it was established. Sundays and Wednesdays they were there. Bill helped during the construction: He installed most of the door knobs in the church, and helped provide for the steeple. Bill and Vi moved back to Vi's house in Tulsa in August 2010 where Bill lost his battle with Alzheimer's and Cervical Spinal Stenosis. Bill loved his children and Vi's children too. They all loved to go to the farm for holidays and Bill really enjoyed their visits. Bill enjoyed the farm and prized his antique tractor. It still runs (when it's not in repair) and is still in the family with his grandson Jeptha Smith. Thanks for coming and caring. We will drive past the farm home on the way to the final resting place at Council House Cemetery.
