John Franklin Woods John Franklin Woods, age 45, of Burden, Kansas, passed away, Sunday, January 21, 2024 at St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa, Oklahoma. John, born on January 7, 1979, was the eldest son of John Woods Jr. and Grace Abrams. Of Osage and Seneca-Cayuga decent, John was a member of the Osage Nation, given the name Wa Stet Sy A To “Good Healer” in the Eagle Clan by his uncle Charles Redcorn. He grew up in Fort Apache of Pawhuska, playing wall ball, baseball, basketball – building the foundation of a lifelong sense of community and inclusion. John attended Cedar Vale High School his Senior year (1997), where he continued his love of sports, averaging 31 points a game in basketball. After high school, John moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico to attend a culinary art school, returning to Kansas a year later. In 2000, John met his soul mate, Amber Jordan, and on August 3, 2002, he married her in Elk City, Kansas, and they became one. They spent the next 22 years, building a family in love, living in Arkansas City, El Dorado, and Moline before settling the last few years in Burden. John was a proud and loving father of 3 and opened his home and heart to many more. John had a strong sense of loyalty and service which was evident by his 22 year career at Winfield Correctional Facility, rising to the rank of Sergeant. John loved spending time fishing with his kids and attending football, basketball, and baseball games to watch and support his nephew Xander. John was blessed to see all three of his children graduate high school. He is survived by his wife Amber Woods; two sons, Marcus Anthony Woods, and John Franklin Woods Jr.; one daughter, Robyn Marie Violet Woods; three brothers; Anthony Woods of Blackwell, Oklahoma, Ian Woods of Moore, Oklahoma, and James Crossland of Noble, Oklahoma; and many other family and friends. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Melissa Cup, Candy Gibson, and Martha Mae Woods; one brother, Chris Woods; and his parents. Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, January 28, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. at the Central Jr./Sr. High Gymnasium in Burden, Kansas with Tony Fowler, James Cosby, and Lee Wheeler officiating. A private family inurnment will be held at a later date. The family also has set up a GoFundMe account to help with any expenses they may incur.
