      Honoring the Life and Legacy of Chief Terry Lee Whitetree. With heavy hearts, we remember and honor the life of Terry Lee Whitetree (December 1943 – January 2025), former Chief of the Seneca Cayuga Nation from 1991 to 1997. A man of wisdom, strength, and unwavering dedication to his people, Chief Whitetree was a beacon of leadership, guiding with both tradition and vision. Throughout his years of service, he worked tirelessly to uphold the values of the Seneca-Cayuga Nation, advocating for the well-being of his people and preserving the rich culture and heritage that defined his community. Terry was currently serving on the Enrollment Committee.
      Terry attended Haskell Indian institution, sought a career in refrigeration/HVAC, but decided to serve his country and entered the U.S. Army. Terry did his basic training at Fort Polk, LA. Entered Air Borne Jump school after basic then Commo school, he was then assigned to the 82ned Airbourne division at Fort Bragg, NC. Terry was deployed to Santo Domingo Dominican Republic and later served in Vietnam, assigned to the 101st airborne division in Dakto South Vietnam. After being discharged Terry returned to Haskell and finished his education.
      Terry worked at McDonnell Douglas then Rockwell International and retired from Boeing.
      Beyond his leadership, Terry Lee Whitetree was a beloved father, grandfather, mentor, and friend. His kindness, wisdom, and humor left lasting impressions on all who had the privilege of knowing him.
      As we say goodbye, we take comfort in knowing that his spirit will forever walk among us, in the stories we share, the traditions we carry forward, and the strength of the people he so deeply loved. Rest in peace, Chief Whitetree. Your legacy lives on.
      Terry was born on December 12th, 1943 and passed away on January 28th, 2025 at the age of 81
